Operating principle
Water softener works according to the ion-exchange principle: the water flows through the tank containing resin saturated with sodium ions, the resin attracts dissolved calcium, magnesium ions and replaces them with sodium ions.
The raw water quantity flowing through the tank decreases purification ability of ion-exchange layer, therefore it must be periodically renewed by rinsing with a saturated salt solution. Saturated salt solution NaCl is obtained from the salt tablets. This process is called regeneration of the filter. Elements gathered during regeneration (Ca, Mg, and Fe) are washed up in the sewers. The softener is running in fully automatic mode. Regeneration (flushing) times are controlled automatically by the control mechanisms and electronic water meters.
